Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy are VFW programs that partner our local Veterans with Kingdom East Schools, Lyndon Institute and Burke Mountain Academy.  Patriot Pen challenges Junior high and middle school student with a 33-400 word essay on a new patriotic theme annually.  Local winners compete at the VFW District, Department (State) and National Level where they compete for a $5000.00 First Place Scholarship. Voice of Democracy challenges High School Student with a Audio Essay of 3 to 5 minuets in duration.  In the Spirit of Patrick Henry, High School Students express their patriotism in free speech selected by the VFW each year.  Audio submissions are electronic and winners receive scholarship and other awards at the Post, District and Department levels.  National VFW Scholarship First Place Award is a grand prize of $30,000.00.  Well worth the effort for a short patriotic speech from the heart.
